Reschedule or cancel your IELTS test

Find out what you need to do if you plan to reschedule or cancel your application for IELTS test.

Here is what you need to know if you wish to reschedule or cancel your IELTS test.

  • If you cancel your application more than five (5) weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration charge of €100.

  • If you cancel within five (5) weeks of the test date, you will be charged the full fee. No refund applies.

  • Reschedulement: You can apply to reschedule your test date by making a request in writing by email to ielts@exam-centre.ie. Requests must be made at least two (2) weeks before the test date. If successful you will be charged a €100 transfer fee. The new exam date must fall within four (4) weeks of the original exam date. Once transferred you can not request a further reschedulement for any reason.

  • No transfers or reschedulement are possible if there is only two (2) or less weeks to your test date.

  • In the case of serious illness – You must inform the Centre by email (ielts@exam-centre.ie) before the end of the registration time of the test otherwise you will be marked as absent and will forfeit your right to a new test date.

  •  An original medical certificate detailing the medical condition on the date of the test must be delivered to the Centre (by email initially) within one (1) day of the test date. Once the medical certificate has been checked and verified you will be transferred to the next available test date after the expiry date on your medical certificate.
  •  Important: Only Original medical certificates in English are accepted. It must be certified medical certificate issued by a qualified medical practitioner registered with the Irish Medical Council. As we need to verify the documents, we can not accept medical certificates issued outside of the jurisdiction of Ireland. Please note we do not accept sick notes issued by family members. 
  • The medical examination can not have taken place after the date of your IELTS exam. If we have not received the required documents by close of business the day after your test, you will be marked as absent and you will forfeit all claims to a reschedulement. You will lose your full IELTS test fee. Claims in relation to pre-existing conditions at the time of booking will not be considered. 

IELTS One Skill Retake: Cancellations, refunds, and transfers

Here is what you need to know if you wish to reschedule or cancel your IELTS One Skill Retake test.

  • As a test taker, you are entitled to a full refund of the OSR test fee if you cancel the test 72 hours or more before the OSR test session.

  • No refund is provided if a test taker fails to show for an OSR or if the OSR result is not recognized by any given institution, organization, or government body. It is the test taker’s responsibility to check whether relevant bodies recognize OSRs.

  • If a test taker wishes to cancel the test within 48 hours, please contact your IELTS test centre.

  • If an OSR test-taker is absent for their OSR they may be able to rebook another OSR within the 60-day eligibility period from the original test.

  • If an OSR test-taker is absent due to special circumstances (sickness, accident, bereavement etc.) they may be able to transfer their registration from the registration system or provided a refund.

  • No administrative fees will be charged for cancellations, refunds or transfers.

If you experience difficulty on a test day, please inform the test centre before the end of the registration period by phone or email . The test centre may offer you a test on the next available test date.

If you can't attend your IELTS test due to a serious medical condition, you must inform the centre before the start of the test. You can provide a medical certificate within 1 day of your test date to receive a transfer to another date (see conditions that apply above). If you are absent on the test day with no prior notice, you will lose your full test fee.
