Wish you could take your IELTS Academic test from the comfort of your own home? Now it’s possible with IELTS Online. All you need is a computer with a webcam, a stable internet connection, and a well-lit private space, and you’re good to go!

Introducing IELTS Online

The world’s leading English language test from the comfort of your home.

Same test, more flexibility

IELTS Online is the same test as the IELTS on paper or IELTS on computer Academic test taken in a test centre. It assesses your English-language proficiency across four key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking test is conducted one-to-one with an accredited IELTS examiner, via a live video call.

Speaking test sessions are about 15 minutes and are available Monday to Friday. The Written test covers Listening, Reading and Writing, and is 2.5 hours long. Written test sessions are available Tuesday to Saturday. Your Speaking Test must be completed at least a day before your Written test.

IELTS Online is available in over 60 countries and territories worldwide. Please check our booking page to see if IELTS Online is available where you are. However, if you’re taking IELTS for a visa or immigration purpose, you’ll need to take the test in an official IELTS test center.

IELTS Online - FAQs

The IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training fundamentally differ in their target audience and the English competencies covered in the respective tests. The IELTS Academic test assesses whether you can comprehend academic or scholarly language, and is tailored for students applying for higher education or professional registration in an English-speaking environment. Whereas the IELTS General Training focuses on English competency in broad social and workplace contexts, making it suitable for individuals moving to English-speaking countries for secondary education, work experience, or training programmes. Still unsure which test format is most suitable? Explore whether you should take IELTS Academic or General Training for immigration.

To prepare for the IELTS test, familiarise yourself with the format across all four test sections – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking – by reviewing official practice materials and test guides available on IDP’s website. Practise English daily, both written and spoken, to enhance your fluency and confidence when communicating in English. You should also take advantage of online resources, including practice tests, to build your confidence and help identify areas for improvement.
